Bramhall Manor Care Centre's recent CQC inspection report highlights areas for development within the home. While many residents feel safe and speak positively about the staff, and the home itself is kept clean and welcoming for visitors, the inspection identified ongoing concerns regarding safety, effectiveness of care, and leadership. The report details specific issues that require attention to ensure consistent high standards of care for all residents.
Regarding safety, the systems for managing medicines were not always robust, potentially putting residents at risk. Risk assessments were not consistently thorough, and while the home is generally clean, some environmental checks were not always completed as required. Staff recruitment processes are sound, but concerns were raised about staffing levels not always being sufficient to meet immediate resident needs, leading to potential delays in response to call bells.
In terms of how effective the care is, residents' needs and choices were not always clearly documented in care records, and care plans sometimes failed to reflect current needs. While staff receive good induction and training, some specific areas require further development. The documentation regarding residents' specific dietary needs also needs improvement.
Concerning how caring the service is, most residents reported feeling safe and spoke positively about the staff's dedication. Visitors felt welcomed and noted that residents were able to receive regular visits from friends and family, contributing to a positive social environment.
In terms of how responsive the service is, residents are supported to express their views, and concerns are investigated. While processes are in place to support people in expressing their wishes, records did not always demonstrate that care was delivered in the least restrictive way possible or always in residents' best interests.
Finally, regarding how well-led the service is, while the provider and registered manager were responsive to feedback and took immediate action to address concerns, the overall oversight systems were not always robust enough to ensure required actions were consistently taken. There is a need for stronger systems to embed learning from incidents into staff practice and to ensure care plans are consistently followed.
