Ladybrook Manor

Ladybrook Manor is a purpose-built residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 98 older people and individuals living with dementia. The home is divided into two separate areas, featuring studio suites and shared communal facilities across three floors. During this first inspection by the Care Quality Commission, residents and their relatives shared largely positive feedback about the welcoming environment, the high standards of presentation, and the compassionate support provided by the staff and management team.

The service maintained safe environments with regular equipment checks and robust recruitment procedures that included necessary background checks. Risk assessments were appropriately managed, and medicines were handled safely by trained staff, although some documentation systems regarding medication and care delivery needed further development and were promptly addressed by the manager.

Residents received effective care supported by personalized plans and regular staff training programmes. Mealtimes offered a relaxed environment with tailored dietary options, and the service operated well within legal frameworks regarding mental capacity and consent, while ongoing interior updates in the dementia unit were noted for future alignment with best practice guidance.

The staff demonstrated genuine compassion and respect, creating a friendly and person-centred atmosphere throughout the home. Relatives and residents felt actively listened to, and staff showed great patience when supporting individuals living with dementia who experienced distress or confusion.

Care was delivered through well-organised daily routines, featuring varied activity schedules such as entertainment, events, and personal profiles to prevent social isolation. However, communication plans within care records did not always provide sufficient detail for newer staff regarding individual communication needs, pointing to an area that requires ongoing review.

The home was led by a passionate and proactive registered manager who maintained an open and approachable culture. Leadership conducted regular governance audits and daily senior meetings to review incidents and drive continuous improvements across the service.
