Brentwood Care Centre is a residential and nursing care home that supports older people and individuals living with dementia, autism, or learning disabilities across three floors. Recent findings show that while the home fosters a positive, welcoming environment with supportive management, several operational and administrative areas require attention to consistently meet people's needs and ensure safety and high standards.
When looking at safety, staffing levels and deployment were inconsistent, leading to noticeable delays for residents waiting for assistance or personal care, and some staff training records were outdated. Although the home was visibly clean, certain communal bathrooms had worn flooring and unpleasant odours, and staff sometimes faced interruptions during morning medicine administration.
Regarding effectiveness, health monitoring records such as weight, oral care, and fluid intake charts had significant gaps, and some risk assessments contained contradictory mobility advice. Staff were working to properly manage legal authorizations for residents when needed, but overall documentation processes require stricter oversight.
On the caring side, residents and their families spoke positively about the supportive and approachable nature of the staff and management team. Relatives felt actively involved in care processes and reported that they were always welcomed and able to easily share feedback or raise concerns.
In terms of being responsive, care plans often lacked detailed, up-to-date, and personalised information, and end-of-life care plans still needed more depth. However, the home had successfully introduced a new activities coordinator, offering engaging group pastimes like quizzes, singing, and interactive games, though more consistency is needed when staff are on leave.
Finally, regarding leadership, the home was currently overseen by an interim manager while permanent recruitment was underway. Staff and relatives praised the new leadership and reported positive team morale, and management responded promptly after the inspection with actionable plans to address the issues raised.
