Charing Court Residential Home provides personal care for up to 33 older people, including individuals living with dementia, within a single adapted building. At the time of our review, 25 residents lived at the home, enjoying engaging interactions with staff and each other. Residents and relatives shared positive feedback, highlighting the considerate, kind, and friendly nature of the team. Following a previous inspection that required improvements, the provider successfully implemented an action plan to address past regulatory breaches, resulting in notable progress across the service.
The home maintains robust safety measures, including thorough risk assessments, safe medicine management, and proper recruitment checks. Infection control policies are closely followed, and regular equipment checks are conducted. However, the report notes that the service previously struggled with ensuring all incidents were consistently reported by staff, which required management to introduce a new reporting procedure to prevent oversight.
Care is delivered in a way that promotes maximum choice and control for residents, supported by up-to-date and accessible care plans. Staff understand how to manage changing needs and appropriately refer individuals to external healthcare professionals when extra support is required.
Residents experience a warm and caring environment where staff know them well and quickly respond to their needs. One-to-one engagement, such as singing with residents living with dementia, demonstrates a personalized approach, though the text primarily emphasizes overall daily kindness and attentiveness rather than structured activities.
The service responds effectively to individual needs by maintaining up-to-date care plans and collaborating closely with healthcare professionals like district nurses and GPs. Communication with families is actively managed through updates and newsletters, ensuring relatives stay informed about care and visiting arrangements.
The home benefits from clear leadership and robust management systems, including monthly quality assurance audits and a new incident-reporting procedure. While governance and oversight have significantly improved since the last inspection, leadership had to address past shortcomings where certain incidents were initially overlooked by staff.
