What inspectors found

Welcome to Lyndhurst House, a residential care home providing support and personal care for up to four individuals with learning disabilities. This report summarises findings from a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), offering insights into the home's performance across key areas of care. The inspection aimed to assess the quality of care, focusing on how well residents are supported to live full and independent lives. It also included a thematic review into the use of restrictive interventions.

Regarding safety, the home has areas requiring attention. While some safety systems are in place, there were instances where staff did not consistently follow approved strategies for managing challenging behaviours, and communication about concerns to senior management was not always effective. This has led to a review of how incidents are recorded and managed to ensure learning is embedded.

In terms of how effective the care is, Lyndhurst House performs well. The service has robust systems for assessing individuals' needs before they join the home, ensuring that care plans are person-centred and meet diverse requirements. Staff receive appropriate training, and the home actively supports residents in accessing healthcare services, leading to good outcomes and quality of life.

The caring aspect of the service is a strength. Staff are consistently described as kind and compassionate, dedicated to promoting residents' privacy and dignity. They support individuals in living fulfilling lives, fostering community presence and developing independence at a pace that suits each person.

When it comes to responsiveness, the service demonstrates good practice. Care plans are detailed and effectively guide staff in delivering personalised support. The home operates in line with best practice guidance, promoting choice, control, and independence for residents, with a focus on creating opportunities for skill development and increased autonomy.

Finally, the leadership at Lyndhurst House requires improvement. While the registered manager is in place, there were issues with the oversight of records and the effectiveness of quality monitoring systems. Ensuring that all learning from incidents and safeguarding concerns is consistently embedded into daily practice remains an area for development.
