CQC ratings by category
Inspected 9 March 2023 · report published 5 May 2023What inspectors found
Enham Trust provides residential care across three houses—Michael, William, and Elizabeth—supporting individuals with learning and physical disabilities. While the campus setting does not fully align with modern best practice, the provider is actively reviewing their service model and working on transitioning one house into supported living. Significant improvements have been achieved since the previous inspection across the premises, care delivery, and overall leadership, creating a more person-centred and inclusive environment.
The home is safe, featuring secure medication management systems and well-maintained premises following recent repairs to heating, leaks, and lifts. Thorough risk assessments and emergency evacuation plans are in place, and thorough background checks are conducted during staff recruitment, though past issues required comprehensive maintenance overhauls.
Care is effective, supported by staff who receive relevant inductions, regular training, and competency checks. Consent is properly managed in line with the Mental Capacity Act, and residents' nutritional needs are met, although some residents and relatives noted that the quality of the food could still be improved.
Staff are caring and empathetic, treating residents with dignity and actively involving them and their families in shaping their care. Relatives shared positive feedback about the supportive relationships built between staff and residents.
The service is responsive to individual needs, offering regular daily activities, supporting personal relationships, and planning for future wishes, including end-of-life care. Residents are actively supported to make choices about their daily lives and future living arrangements without pressure.
Leadership is strong and effective, fostering an inclusive culture and maintaining robust quality assurance systems that successfully drive ongoing improvements. Regular communication and collaboration with external healthcare professionals ensure consistent and timely support for everyone living at the service.
