What inspectors found

This report details the findings of a comprehensive inspection at Greenacres Residential Care Home. The inspection was carried out to assess the overall quality of the service provided and its compliance with regulations. The report covers five key areas: safety, effectiveness of care, caring approach, responsiveness to needs, and leadership. Overall, the inspection identified areas of good practice, but also highlighted specific points for improvement that were addressed promptly by the management.

On safety, while residents felt secure, initial environmental risks were noted, including unsecured kitchen and laundry areas and upstairs window restrictors. Medication trolleys were also not always secured during rounds. These issues were addressed immediately.

In terms of how effective the care is, systems were in place for mental capacity and deprivation of liberty safeguards, though some applications were pending. Staff received good training and supervision, and residents were supported with their nutrition and hydration needs.

The service was caring, with residents and relatives providing positive feedback. People were treated with dignity and respect, and staff were observed engaging in kind and attentive interactions.

Regarding how responsive the service is, care plans were detailed and reflective of residents' needs. Complaints were handled appropriately, and there was a range of activities available for residents to participate in.

The service was well-led, with effective systems for monitoring quality. Staff and residents spoke positively about the management team, and regular staff meetings and handovers ensured good communication. Auditing systems and regularly reviewed policies and procedures supported the overall management.
