What inspectors found

L'Arche Kent Faith House is a service for up to five individuals with learning disabilities and autism. This inspection report offers insights into the care provided. The report highlights that while residents are treated with kindness and staff demonstrate genuine affection, there are areas for improvement regarding safety and leadership.

On safety, risks to individuals were identified and actions taken, but some risk assessments lacked full guidance for staff. Environmental risks, such as high water temperatures, were noted and not always resolved promptly. However, staff were described as understanding best practice, recruited safely, and medication support promoted independence. People were supported to make choices and achieve their goals in a safe environment.

Regarding effective care, staff knew residents well and offered day-to-day choices, respecting privacy and dignity. They understood how to protect individuals from harm and abuse, promoting equality and diversity. Care and support aimed to enhance residents' well-being and enjoyment of life, with communication needs being well understood.

In terms of caring practices, residents were treated with kindness and affection, with staff showing a deep understanding of individual needs. Residents were encouraged to participate in daily tasks and were supported to lead inclusive lives. Staff respected privacy and dignity, and understood how to safeguard individuals from abuse, with appropriate training in place.

Concerning responsiveness, the service generally ensured that residents' wishes and needs were at the forefront of care. Staff communicated effectively with residents, respecting their individual communication styles. Residents were supported to achieve their aspirations and pursue their chosen interests, fostering learning and development.

Looking at how well-led the service is, while the management team and staff demonstrated a positive culture and understood the service's values, quality assurance systems did not consistently identify shortfalls. This included not always spotting risks within assessments or the environment, and a need for more robust oversight in certain areas. Nevertheless, staff felt supported by management, and residents appeared content.
