This report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) provides an overview of Moor House Residential Care Home following an inspection. It details the findings across key areas of care provision, focusing on how safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led the service is for its residents. The inspection aimed to assess the quality of care and identify areas of strength and potential improvement.
In terms of safety, residents are protected from avoidable harm, with effective infection prevention and control measures in place, and staff well-trained in safeguarding. The home ensures appropriate risk assessments are conducted and followed, and residents have personal emergency evacuation plans. However, some improvements are needed in medication record-keeping, specifically with topical medications and the checking of new stock deliveries, although these issues were promptly addressed by the manager and did not impact residents.
Regarding the effectiveness of care, residents have access to healthcare professionals when needed, and staff are knowledgeable about risks and how to support individuals appropriately. While staff deployment is generally sufficient, there were instances where residents experienced waits for assistance, though the provider had already recognised this and increased staffing levels.
The caring aspect of the service is highlighted by residents and their relatives, who consistently describe staff as kind and caring, contributing to residents feeling safe and well looked after. Staff interactions are respectful, and residents are supported to maintain their independence and control over their lives.
In terms of responsiveness, residents and their families know how to make complaints and feel their concerns are heard by the registered manager. They are also given opportunities to provide feedback on the service and participate in meetings.
Looking at how well-led the service is, while residents and staff generally report a positive atmosphere and speak highly of the registered manager, there are areas for development. Auditing systems for medication administration need further strengthening to consistently identify and address minor record-keeping shortfalls. Although the provider has addressed these issues and embedded new systems, more time is needed to ensure these changes are fully established.
