Hithermoor House is a specialized care home currently accommodating two adults with physical disabilities and complex healthcare needs. The service provides a highly personalized, warm environment where residents and their families are actively involved in planning care and setting personal goals. The physical building is a single-level bungalow thoughtfully adapted with wheelchair accessibility, ramps, widened doorways, wet rooms, and security cameras to accommodate mobility requirements and ease residents' anxiety.
The home maintains a secure environment with consistent, well-established staff who undergo thorough background checks and receive appropriate safeguarding training. There are always at least two staff members on duty, including overnight, and staff perform unobtrusive half-hourly observations for a resident who cannot use a call bell. Risks in areas such as nutrition, skin integrity, and mobility are carefully managed, and medicines are handled safely through daily audits and digital management systems, though minor administrative errors with pharmacies and patches are promptly addressed and used as learning opportunities.
Staff receive robust inductions, regular supervisions, and specialized training from external bodies like the Spinal Injuries Association and NHS providers to meet complex health conditions. Healthcare needs are managed proactively through prompt communication with GPs, district nurses, and specialists, resulting in stable blood glucose levels for one resident. Staff strictly follow the Mental Capacity Act, consistently seeking daily consent, assessing capacity, and respecting residents' right to make informed personal choices about their lifestyle and treatment.
Residents experience exceptional personalization that significantly improves their quality of life and independence. The management works hard to secure specialized equipment that helps residents access their community and live life to the full. Staff communicate effectively with individuals who have restricted speech and support them in planning their own daily menus, managing tube feeding safely, and maintaining a balanced diet.
The service is led by a registered manager who acts as a strong role model, fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture appreciated by staff, families, and external professionals. Staff demonstrate deep compassion, offering emotional support and skillfully helping residents plan for end-of-life wishes. While governance and community partnerships are exceptional, the home remains committed to continuous learning, maintaining an open environment where feedback from all parties is actively welcomed to drive ongoing improvements.
