This targeted inspection by the Care Quality Commission took place on 24 March 2021 and specifically focused on examining the home's preparedness, infection prevention, and control measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings highlight how the service managed safety protocols, visitor access, and resident wellbeing during these challenging times.

When looking at how the home keeps everyone protected, inspectors found robust infection prevention and control measures in place, including thorough visitor screening with temperature checks and rapid lateral flow testing, ample personal protective equipment supplies, and a clean, uncluttered building supported by monthly audits.

For the effective category, the service ensured that staff received proper training on pandemic safety and utilized a specific compliance assessment tool, alongside maintaining up-to-date policies and signposting to external resources for further developmental approach.

To ensure residents felt cared for, staff showed high commitment and dedication in supporting people's emotional and social wellbeing, actively helping residents stay connected with family and friends through telephone and internet contact.

Regarding being responsive to needs, the home successfully facilitated in-person visits through garden views, window visits, a specially created internal visitor's pod, and face-to-face meetings with designated visitors, while also arranging safe isolation plans and one-to-one room support when residents returned from the hospital.

On the well-led front, management maintained strong oversight through effective welfare review processes and a dedicated staff well-being file located in the staff room to provide guidance and monitor team support, while staff thoughtfully carried notebooks to improve communication with residents who struggled to hear them through masks.
