Silverdale provides residential and dementia care for older adults in a welcoming environment where residents and their families feel actively involved in the life of the home. The staff team is widely praised for being approachable, highly supportive of one another, and dedicated to creating a warm atmosphere. While residents and relatives generally express positive views about the management and overall quality of care, inspectors noted several areas requiring closer attention to ensure consistent standards across all operations.
Residents generally feel safe and well looked after by a team that undergoes proper background checks and understands how to prevent abuse. Individual risks are assessed with the help of practical safety equipment, medicines are stored securely, and the home is maintained to a clean standard. However, inspectors observed that staffing levels can feel stretched at times, occasionally leaving communal areas unmonitored and making it difficult to oversee residents who are at risk of falls or distress.
The home effectively assesses residents' needs, provides appropriate staff training, and creates a dementia-friendly physical layout complete with personalised bedrooms and themed areas. Residents enjoy regular drinks and choices at mealtimes, and staff maintain strong connections with external healthcare professionals to support overall wellbeing. On the legal side, however, the home needs to improve how mental capacity assessments are documented to ensure they strictly follow legal guidelines.
Interactions between staff and residents are consistently kind, compassionate, and respectful of personal dignity. Staff take the time to get to know individuals well, support daily choices, and encourage residents to maintain their independence wherever possible. While families feel included in major discussions, care records do not always clearly capture how residents and relatives were consulted during the creation of their care plans.
Care plans are tailored to individual preferences, and the home offers diverse communication strategies, including translation tools and alternative boards, to overcome sensory or language barriers. Residents benefit from an active lifestyle program that features regular community outings, tea dances, and social events designed to prevent isolation. Although personal care plans vary in their level of detail regarding daily routines, residents appreciate having plenty of engaging activities and people to talk to.
Management is approachable and values feedback from staff, residents, and families through regular meetings. However, internal oversight systems and safety checks require strengthening, as they failed to proactively catch certain issues—such as gaps in medicine records and documentation shortfalls—that inspectors ultimately uncovered during their visit.
