What inspectors found

This report summarises an inspection of St Brannocks, a residential care home for up to six people with learning disabilities and autism. The inspection focused on how well the service meets the CQC’s five key questions: safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led. Overall, the inspection found that the service is performing well, with residents expressing happiness and satisfaction with their care and the home environment.

On safety, residents are kept safe from harm, with risks effectively managed and staff well-trained to recognise and report abuse. Medicines are handled securely, and incidents are analysed to improve care. In terms of how effective the care is, residents' needs are thoroughly assessed and used to plan personalised support. Staff receive excellent training and supervision, ensuring they have the skills to meet residents' needs, and residents are supported to maintain a healthy diet and access healthcare services. Regarding caring, staff demonstrate kindness, compassion, and respect, treating residents with dignity and involving them in decisions about their care. Residents feel listened to, and their privacy and independence are actively promoted. On responsiveness, care plans are personalised to meet individual needs and preferences, ensuring residents have choice and control over their lives. The service actively seeks feedback from residents and their families and uses this to make improvements. Finally, concerning how well-led the service is, there are clear systems for monitoring the quality of care provided, and the service works collaboratively with external agencies. The management team demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement and upholds the principles of providing meaningful lives for residents.
