The report details the findings of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors following their visit on April 9, 2018. The aim is to assess how well the home meets the needs of its residents across five key areas: safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness, and leadership. The findings are based on observations, discussions with residents, relatives, and staff, as well as a review of care records and policies.

Regarding safety, residents generally felt secure and well looked after, with staff knowledgeable about safeguarding procedures and alert to potential risks. Care plans were detailed and regularly updated, and staff were well-trained to manage individual needs, including those with dementia or challenging behaviours. The home maintained sufficient staffing levels and followed robust recruitment practices. Medication management was safe, with staff ensuring residents received their prescribed treatments correctly and securely. Emergency preparedness, including fire safety, was well-established, and infection control measures were in place.

In terms of how effective the care is, residents and their families expressed satisfaction with the support provided, noting that staff were attentive and met diverse needs. Staff possessed the necessary skills and knowledge, with many holding relevant qualifications and receiving ongoing training. Regular supervision and appraisals supported staff development. The home operated in line with the Mental Capacity Act, with appropriate systems for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. Care assessments were thorough, ensuring residents' needs could be met upon admission and throughout their stay. Residents had access to nutritious food that catered to their dietary requirements, and staff were supported to seek medical assistance when needed.

When it comes to caring, inspectors observed positive interactions between staff and residents, with staff demonstrating kindness and respect. Residents and their relatives felt staff knew them well and provided compassionate care. The home encouraged residents to maintain their independence and supported them in engaging with daily activities and social opportunities, both within the home and in the wider community.

Concerning responsiveness, residents' individual preferences and needs were central to their care plans, and they were involved in reviews to ensure their support continued to meet their requirements. The home actively encouraged residents to participate in a range of activities, both inside and outside the home, promoting their engagement and well-being. Feedback from residents and their families was sought and used to make improvements.

Finally, in terms of leadership, staff felt well-supported by the management team and were encouraged to raise concerns or suggest improvements. Regular staff meetings were held, with actions recorded and followed up. The management actively monitored the quality of care, sought feedback from various stakeholders, and worked to ensure residents' needs were met. The home had established systems for managing complaints, ensuring they were addressed appropriately.
