This summary provides an overview of the recent CQC inspection report for Tandridge Heights. The inspection focused on the home's infection prevention and control measures, alongside a review of existing ratings in other key areas. It aims to offer families a clear understanding of the service's performance and any areas highlighted for development.
On safety, residents and their families reported feeling secure, and the home maintained high standards of cleanliness and infection control. Robust health and safety checks were consistently performed on equipment and the environment. Records were thorough, detailing each person's individual care needs.
In terms of how effective the care is, the report indicates that residents' needs were well-understood and supported. Care plans were personalised and regularly updated. Staff were noted for their attentiveness, with examples including prompt calls following a fall and the use of sensor mats. The recruitment of staff was also rigorous, ensuring appropriate checks were in place.
Regarding caring practices, residents generally experienced care that respected their choices and preferences, such as how they wished to take their medication. Staff were trained and competent in administering medicines, with accurate record-keeping, including photos to ensure the right person received their medication. However, an expired emergency diabetic supply was noted and promptly rectified.
In response to residents' needs, the service was found to be responsive. Staff were available to support residents, particularly during mealtimes. Communication with residents and their families was positive, with relatives feeling confident in the service's management of risks, including those associated with COVID-19.
Concerning how well-led the service is, while improvements have been made in quality assurance systems, some areas for growth were identified. For instance, certain expired products and propped-open fire doors were not consistently identified by internal checks. However, the leadership team was committed to providing high-quality, person-centred care, and residents and their relatives spoke highly of the registered manager's approachability and effectiveness in communication and addressing concerns. There was a commitment to fostering reflective practice and involving staff and residents in the service's development.
