The Cedars Rest Home provides residential care for up to 34 individuals, including those living with dementia. The home operated within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring that decisions were made in residents' best interests and in the least restrictive way possible. Arrangements for residents' medicines were well-managed, with clear guidance for staff on 'as and when required' medications.
In terms of caring, residents and their relatives spoke very positively about the staff team, with many highlighting the compassionate and respectful nature of the care provided. Staff understood their responsibilities in safeguarding residents, and when necessary, incidents were reported appropriately to the local authority. Residents reported feeling safe and that their needs were being met.
Concerning responsiveness, the home ensured residents had maximum choice and control over their lives. There were no restrictions on visitors, and residents could choose to meet visitors in communal areas or their own rooms. The home was prepared to manage infection outbreaks, and new admissions were handled safely. Residents had no complaints, and the new leadership was actively planning to reintroduce formal meetings with residents and their relatives.
On how well-led the service is, the report indicates a positive and person-centred culture. The new registered manager was approachable, maintained regular communication, and listened to feedback, actively identifying areas for improvement and working to address them. Staff felt supported, and there was confidence in the leadership. The home engaged well with residents, relatives, staff, and professionals, and was working to build strong partnerships with external health and social care organisations. While there were no complaints, the manager was planning formal meetings and gathering opinions to further enhance resident engagement.
