Inspected 16 June 2021 · report published 5 August 2021What inspectors found
This report summarises the findings of an inspection at The Limes, a residential care home for individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism. The inspection aimed to assess how well the service is run, focusing on safety and leadership. It found that while the overall management and culture are strong, there are areas where safety procedures need further development to ensure the highest standards are consistently met for all residents.
On safety, while robust policies are in place to protect residents from abuse and medicines are managed well, some risk assessments and health and safety checks showed inconsistencies and gaps. Emergency evacuation plans also require updating, and not all health and safety checks were completed as frequently as needed, with a specific note about COVID-19 testing procedures needing to be conducted in a more private area.
In terms of how effective the care is, the service actively promotes residents' independence and dignity. Staff understand individual needs and treat residents with respect. The home's environment and the model of care are designed to maximise choice and control for each person, ensuring they have good access to the local community.
Regarding caring practices, staff are noted for their empathy and ability to tune into residents' specific needs, with a non-one-size-fits-all approach to support. Residents are described as enjoying their time at the home, being busy and happy, and not wanting to leave due to their positive experiences.
On responsiveness, the service is focused on providing person-centred care that respects residents' dignity, privacy, and human rights. Staff are involved in adapting and reviewing support plans, ensuring that care is tailored to individual requirements.
In terms of how well-led the service is, the management team has fostered a positive, open, and inclusive culture, which has significantly improved the atmosphere in the home. Staff feel supported, approachable, and knowledgeable, with clear plans for continuous improvement and proactive management of any concerns. The leadership is praised for its intelligence, empathy, and effective communication.
