This CQC inspection report for Tudor Lodge provides an overview of the care home's performance based on key areas like safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness, and leadership. The inspection focused on safety and leadership due to concerns raised. While residents and their families generally feel safe and well-cared for, the report highlights several areas requiring improvement to ensure consistent quality and safety standards across the service.
On safety, the home needs to ensure that potential health and welfare risks are consistently assessed with detailed guidance for staff. While accidents are recorded, there's a need for better tracking of actions taken to prevent recurrence. Medication management requires attention, as there were instances where medicines were not administered as prescribed. Staff are recruited safely, and while there are enough staff, a more consistent system is needed to calculate staffing levels when resident needs change. However, infection prevention and control measures are strong, with assurances that the home is well-prepared to manage outbreaks.
In terms of how effective the care is, the report indicates that residents appear happy and relaxed with staff. Staff are supported to help residents make choices and control their lives in the least restrictive way. The service has systems to protect people from discrimination and abuse, and the manager reports incidents appropriately. Relatives feel confident discussing concerns and are kept informed.
Regarding caring practices, residents seem to feel safe and well-looked after by staff. Families report that their loved ones are safe and well-cared for. Staff interactions are positive, and residents appear comfortable and happy in the company of staff.
The responsiveness of the service is viewed positively, as relatives are able to visit their loved ones whenever they wish and are supported in taking them out. Staff assist residents in being ready for outings, which are enjoyed by both residents and their families.
On how well-led the service is, while the management team has an open door policy and relatives feel confident speaking with the registered manager, leadership and governance need improvement. Audits are completed, but they haven't always identified all shortfalls, and there isn't a consistent system for tracking corrective actions. While notifications to the CQC are timely, the provider needs to ensure more effective assessment, monitoring, and improvement of the service's overall quality and safety. Relatives are generally kept informed when things go wrong, and staff feel supported. There's a plan to hold future relative meetings and discussions about service improvements.
