What inspectors found

Whitmore Vale House provides accommodation and personal care for up to 20 people with learning disabilities and autistic people, with 16 residents living there during the inspection. The home is divided into three separate living quarters, each featuring its own kitchen and communal areas. Recent leadership and staff improvements have successfully addressed previous recommendations from earlier inspections, creating a person-centred environment focused on skill-building, community access, and individual choice.

Residents are actively supported to learn new life skills, retain their independence, and make daily choices about their care, meals, and social activities like cinema trips. Staff manage risks through detailed individual assessments that promote positive risk-taking while keeping residents safe.

Care is delivered by a sufficient number of trained, permanent and agency staff who know residents well and ensure proper medication management and healthcare access. The environment is suitable for residents' needs, though ongoing monitoring of specific health conditions like diabetes and mobility risks remains a daily priority.

The service fosters an inclusive culture where residents and relatives feel valued, and the new management team is approachable and committed to continuous improvement. Feedback from families and regular audits are actively used to enhance the quality of care provided.

Staff work within legal frameworks to respect residents' capacity and consent, ensuring restrictions are kept to a minimum and properly authorized when necessary. While staff training has improved significantly, the provider is still actively working with the local council to roll out specialized learning disability and autism training packages to further strengthen team expertise.

Residents are treated with genuine compassion, kindness, and respect, building relaxed and positive relationships with staff who support their personal dignity. Families are kept well-informed about daily activities, and residents are consistently encouraged to participate in household tasks and express their views on their care.
