This inspection report for Bedford Care Home reflects a comprehensive review of the services provided to residents. Inspectors examined how the home ensures safety, the effectiveness of care, how residents are treated, how well the service responds to individual needs, and the quality of its leadership. The report details specific findings across these key areas, offering insights into the home's operational practices and the experiences of those living there.
On safety, residents told inspectors they felt secure and that staff were knowledgeable about how to report safeguarding concerns. Arrangements for managing medicines were found to be safe, and infection control processes were robust. The home's environment was clean, and accident reporting was consistent with analysis to prevent recurrence.
In terms of how effective the care is, staff receive good training and support, with a high completion rate for mandatory courses. However, improvements are still needed in consistently documenting personal and oral care, and in adapting the environment, particularly for those with dementia, to be more personalised. Inspectors also noted that while residents receive sufficient food and drink, feedback on food quality varied.
Regarding caring practices, staff supported residents with choice and control, acting in their best interests and using the least restrictive approach. Residents generally felt safe and well looked after, with relatives also expressing confidence in the care provided. Staff knew how to identify and report concerns, and safeguarding issues were handled appropriately.
In its responsiveness, the home has improved its care planning system, now using electronic records. While the transition is ongoing, efforts are being made to ensure care plans remain personalised and that residents and their families are involved in regular reviews. Communication needs are being met, and residents know how to raise complaints, though none had felt the need to do so.
Concerningly well-led, the home uses systems to monitor its quality, with regular reviews of improvement plans involving both management and the wider provider. Feedback from residents and staff is sought, contributing to an ongoing cycle of evaluation and development. The home has made significant progress since the last inspection, addressing previous regulatory breaches.
