What inspectors found

Broadmeadow provides intermediate care, short-term respite, and dementia care in a purpose-built facility with 43 en-suite bedrooms and 5 flats. The home is designed to support people returning home from hospital or to prevent further hospital admissions. This report summarises findings from a recent CQC inspection, highlighting key areas of the service's performance.

On safety, residents feel secure, and robust systems are in place to protect them from abuse and harm. Risks are well-managed, both environmentally and individually, and there are sufficient, safely recruited staff to meet residents' needs. Medicines are handled safely, and lessons are learned from any incidents.

In terms of how effective the care is, staff training and induction are good, with staff demonstrating knowledge in their roles. However, there's a need to improve the frequency of staff supervision to align with the provider's policy, as some staff have not received it as often as required. Some training updates, like pressure area prevention, also show minor gaps.

The care provided is described as caring, with residents feeling respected and involved in their care. Staff promote privacy and dignity, encouraging independence. Residents receive person-centred care based on their preferences, and their care plans are reviewed as their needs change, with support for communication needs when necessary.

Regarding responsiveness, residents can engage in various activities and have private visits with loved ones. Complaints are handled effectively, with action taken in response. Care is person-centred, reviewed according to changing needs, and staff support communication needs.

The service is well-led, with a person-centred culture driven by the manager. Quality and safety are well-managed, with good oversight from the provider and manager, leading to improvements in care through quality monitoring and feedback.
