Overall, the inspection found the home to be a well-run establishment that prioritises the well-being and satisfaction of its residents, with a positive culture and dedicated staff.
Regarding safety, the home effectively minimises risks by identifying and managing individual and environmental hazards. Staff are well-trained in recognising and reporting potential abuse, and robust procedures are in place to ensure resident safety. Safeguarding checks are thorough, and adequate staffing levels ensure residents receive the support they need. Medicines are managed securely and administered safely, with staff receiving appropriate training. Infection control measures are consistently applied, with regular checks and audits.
In terms of effectiveness, care plans are developed through comprehensive assessments that involve residents and their families, ensuring individual needs and preferences are met. The service adheres to the principles of the Mental Capacity Act, supporting residents to make their own decisions wherever possible. Staff receive regular training and support, contributing to their ability to meet residents' needs effectively. While most residents are happy with the food, one resident found it a bit bland.
On the caring aspect, staff are described as pleasant, respectful, and demonstrating a deep understanding of residents' needs. Positive and caring relationships are evident, with staff showing patience and support even when residents are difficult. Residents and their families feel well-informed about care decisions and are consistently consulted. The home supports residents' independence, allowing them to move freely and choose their activities, while staff regularly check on those who prefer quieter time in their rooms.
In terms of responsiveness, the service actively involves residents and their representatives in care planning and seeks their views on service improvements. Processes are in place for handling complaints and feedback, fostering an open and inclusive culture. Residents are supported to maintain interests and participate in the local community, with activities like sing-alongs organised.
Regarding how well-led the service is, the registered manager and provider demonstrate a clear understanding of their legal responsibilities and stay updated on relevant changes. Quality monitoring systems are in place to drive continuous improvement. The home fosters a positive culture, and residents and relatives feel involved in the development of the service. While call bell responses were noted to be delayed during a staff shift change on one occasion, this was promptly addressed by the manager with staff.
