What inspectors found

Strode Park House is a large residential care home supporting up to 55 adults with physical disabilities, complex health conditions, learning disabilities, or autism. Located in Herne Bay with extensive grounds, the home offers individual ground-floor bedrooms across four wings alongside communal living spaces. Following a previous period in special measures, recent inspections show significant positive changes. Staffing levels and overall culture have noticeably improved, residents now enjoy regular outings and activities, and management demonstrates open, transparent leadership in addressing past concerns.

While the service has made strong progress in managing risks and safety, some medicine records lacked consistent tracking for carried-over stock, and certain care plans for urinary catheters required more detailed infection prevention guidelines.

Care and treatment achieve good outcomes because staff properly assess health needs using recognized tools and follow evidence-based standards. Although feedback on main catered meals remains mixed, residents receive personalized dietary support, assistance with specialist diets or tube feeding, and a wide choice at breakfast.

Feedback confirms that staff are kind, caring, and treat residents with genuine respect. Residents are actively encouraged to maintain their personal independence and are fully involved in monitoring and managing their day-to-day health.

The service responds well to individual needs by offering person-centered care that promotes personal dignity and privacy. Residents are regularly supported to go out to local attractions like the seafront and wildlife parks, utilizing the home's dedicated transport.

Management and staff share a clear, positive ethos that is actively embedded into staff recruitment and training. Regular meetings are held to gather feedback from residents, families, and staff, ensuring continuous oversight and a transparent approach to ongoing improvements.
